Sergio Hernandez just joined the staff as the new Outreach Program Coordinator, his work in youth outreach initiatives began back in 2006 as a student relation fellow for the Hispanic Youth Symposium for five years. Sergio is a first generation son, brother, educator and DREAMER. He is the first in his family to graduate from college. Sergio graduated from California State Polytechnic University Pomona in 2010, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. After college, Sergio worked as an advocate for DREAMERS in several non-profit organizations. His social justice and advocacy work has afforded him the opportunity to speak on behalf of Dreamers, being that he himself is a Dreamer. He dedicates himself to help Dreamers by serving in many leadership opportunities in the in the local communities.
His most recent worked occurred at the Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where he served as the Rose Float Club Advisor. Sergio additionally served as the Student Affairs Scholarship Program and EOP and AB-40 Graduate Assistant and Assistant, Greek Life Coordinator at California State University, Fullerton. Over his educational career and volunteer work with the youth he was inspired to pursue post-secondary education. Sergio recently earned his Master’s in Education with Concentration in Higher Education from California State University, Fullerton in 2013. Sergio aspires to create a college going culture in the lives of all students and parents he encounters in his role as the Outreach Program Manager.
I am inspired each day when working with students who are determined to believe in their dreams and strive to succeed. My work thus far with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, an organization that beliefs in increasing college and parent knowledge of education, by providing financial resources and support student achievement is a dream come true.
