Saludos

It will come as no surprise that we think our alumni are special. Like the HSF alumni pictured above, our alumni are doing exciting things in their professional careers and serving as positive role models to young Latinos. In this month's Opportunity Knocks we chose to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Leticia Rodriguez (pictured above). HSF is immensely proud to have played a part in Leticia's life and in the success of all our alumni.

That's why we are launching an exciting effort to deepen our relationship with you and offer you the chance to connect with one another. You belong to a 50,000-strong network of alumni who are leading the way in businesses and neighborhoods across the country. Everyday, you and other scholarship recipients like you are shaping America's future.

Our vision is to put a college degree in every Latino household by providing scholarships, information and support to thousands of Hispanic youth with the grades, drive and desire to go to college. Our efforts are working. Celebrating its 35th year, HSF has awarded over $300 million in college scholarships to Latino students. We have also reached more than 200,000 parents and K-12 students since 1999 through workshops and programs that give students and families the resources they need to reach their college dreams. And we've recently launched a national campaign called Your Words Today that aims to empower Latino parents to help their children reach college.

Yet we can't do it alone. Collectively, we have the power to turn the tide and boost education among Hispanic youth. With our emphasis on building relationships with and among our alumni, we are developing and expanding programs to help you get involved. We invite you to join with us to close the Hispanic achievement gap and connect with other alumni who share your passion and interests. We'll help you advance your career and grow your professional skills through resources like the Career Focus column and we'll offer tools that will enable you to make a lasting difference for others in your community.

Connect and meet other HSF alumni across the country and in your area. Join the HSF Alumni Network - an elite group of leaders like yourself who are forging links to strengthen our efforts and provide a brighter future for our communities.

Sincerely,

In The
Community

HSF alumna, Leticia Rodriguez grew up in a community where Letty Rodriguezmany youth live in poverty, join gangs, and drop out of school. Going to college or knowing how to make positive changes in their community were not common aspirations. Yet Letty decided to better herself - and improve the lives of those around her.
