Gates Millennium Scholarship Recipient 2010

Compton, CA native, Ernesto Villasenor Jr., knew that he would attend college since elementary school. “I was being molded to go to college and doing so in my family and community was profound.”  Ernesto became interested in HSF as a freshman in high school when one of his friends received the Gates Millennium Scholarship. “My friend got the Gates Scholarship and told me about the 4 branches andthe Hispanic Scholarship Fund.”  As a current college student, Ernesto aspires to work in the field of health and provide assistance in developing countries. His primary concern is addressing the disparities of health and education in the southern region of Los Angeles, CA. His overall involvement with the fund included promoting HSF’s works through social media. “Using myself as a voice to other Latinos has been amazing.”  He strongly advises students to not only get more information in regard to the Gates Millennium Scholarship, but also look for the other scholarships and programs that HSF has to offer. Ernesto’s experience with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund has been nothing short of amazing. “It’s been amazing working with super energetic staff and other applicants and scholars, because it’s awesome to have peer mentoring.” Aside from the financial support and educational opportunities that HSF has provided Ernesto, he has also gained a vast network of individuals that have allowed him to achieve his professional goals.
