Leaders in Education Awards Winners

Thank you to everyone who submitted your nominations for the Teacher of The Year and Parent of the Year to be
recognized during the Leaders in Education Awards. 

 

Meet the winners

 Student Jordan Student of the Year: presented by Toyota

Jordan Castellanos was selected to receive a Toyota Scholarship and has been named the Student of the Year. This award recognizes the student in the region who most embodies the “Student Leader” traits and characteristics. Jordan has started college at the University of Redlands (CA) on August 31st, 2011.

 

 Rosa Elena and award

Parent of the year: presented by The Coca-Cola Company

Rosa Elena Gonzalez
Through the nomination process Rosa Elena shined as the best example of those parents whose incredibly inspiring stories show their support and personal sacrifice to help their children succeed and pursue a higher education.

 

 Dave Ungerer and award
Teacher of the Year: presented by Telemundo/NBC Universal

Dave Ungerer, Kaiser High School, Fontana (CA)

Teachers of all Southern California were nominated by their students, and Dave Ungerer was selected for his creativity and personal dedication to inspire his students to pursue a university career. Dave Ungerer has supported hundreds of students of Kaiser High School since the school opened its doors in 1999.

 

 

 The Accelerated School

School of The Year: presented by Wells Fargo

The Accelerated School

The Accelerated School was founded in 1994 by two visionary young teachers with 50 students. The school has become a national model for education reform and professional development. The school has taken some very innovative approaches to education and college preparation. President and CEO, Joaquin Hernandez, and founder Johnathan Williams will receive the award on the school’s behalf.
