HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY GRANTS NEARLY $290,000
TO HSF FOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
San Francisco, CA October 2007 - The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education, announced today it has received a $289,722 grant from the Hewlett-Packard Company. This funding will provide Latino students with scholarships and additional program support that is fundamental to their success.
The HSF/Hewlett-Packard Scholarship Program is a cohort that provides financial aid and productivity packages of computer hardware and software to Latinos majoring in computer science, computer engineering and electrical engineering. The goal of the HSF/Hewlett-Packard Scholarship Program is to expand the pool of Hispanic students prepared for high technology careers as well as provide a foundation and potential source for future Hewlett-Packard interns. HSF/Hewlett-Packard Scholars may receive up to $12,000 in awards until they graduate. Students attending the following schools may apply: Morgan State University, Maryland; North Carolina A&T State University; University of California, Los Angeles; University of Arizona and San Jose State University.
"This contribution further demonstrates Hewlett-Packard Company’s commitment to inspiring Latino students to attain their higher education,” said Christopher E. Jones, HSF Chief Operating Officer. “We appreciate Hewlett-Packard Company’s foresight and willingness to invest in Latino higher education. The Hewlett-Packard Company understands the impact an increasingly educated Hispanic population will have on this country’s economy.”
With the support provided by the Hewlett-Packard Company, HSF continues to work toward breaking the cycle of under-education and ensuring more Latinos earn their college degrees, said Jones.
The Hewlett-Packard Company continues to develop collaborations with organizations and institutions, such as HSF, that expand access to education and promote diversity and leadership.
