Rising Star Program
Established in the fall of 2007, the Rising Star program is a joint venture between the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and select non-profits in Colorado to support exceptional students who have been identified as having a strong likelihood of college success and who are participating in mentoring and academic support programs.
The Rising Star program is managed by a Program Officer stationed in Denver, Colorado. The Program Officer forges and coordinates the work with participating partners, conducts outreach to eligible students, supports them with the completion of their scholarship applications and assists with the data collection for a longitudinal study of program effectiveness.
In addition, the Program Officer manages the retention initiative through the HSF Scholar Chapter network. An HSF Scholar Chapter is an on-campus student group run by HSF-trained and supervised students designed to promote academic excellence and build leadership skills among HSF scholars and other Latino students. Scholar chapters organize academic workshops, career/graduate school preparation events, volunteer outreach opportunities and mentoring/networking events for Latino students. In addition, HSF matches Scholar Chapter participants with HSF alumni and mentors to help Latino students transition from college to professional life.
