Our mission is vital to both the Hispanic population and the country as a whole. We need an educated America! I am not Latino myself. However my daughter and members of my family are. Thru them, I have been able to experience many challenges that our students and their families face every day.
I was the first in my family to graduate from college. My mother attended 2 years at a four-year college, but then stopped to start a family. She had a bookkeeping service that she ran out of the house. My father went from the Navy to IBM and stayed there for 30 years. They were so proud when I graduated. I could see it in their eyes. My younger sister followed in my footsteps and became a registered nurse. I want other families to experience the success that higher education brings and the doors to future opportunities that open, as a result. I work hard, but I don’t mind because I love what I do and I love why I do it.
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in being prepared and having opportunities. You need both. HSF empowers students to take control of their futures; to create opportunities for themselves and be prepared to take full advantage of them, when they come.
