Full Bio

Jonathan Barona is the Scholar Services Manager for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF).  He is responsible for providing retention support to HSF scholars and managing several multi-year scholarship programs.  Jonathan supports HSF’s mission by serving as a resource for HSF scholars and providing guidance and tips to help scholars succeed in college.

Mr. Barona has experience working with K-16 students and parents in all aspects of educational, personal, and professional development.  He has concentrated mostly on the college-going process and has experience in outreach, recruitment, and retention of Latino college students.  He previously managed the Hispanic Scholarship Fund/Boys & Girls Clubs of America partnership in Atlanta GA, HSF peer counselor program, Tu@UT University Alliance program at the University of Texas at Austin, HSF Community College Transfer initiative, and several other programs at HSF.

Mr. Barona holds a Bachelor's degree in Marketing from The University of Central Florida.

He currently lives in Austin Texas and shares office space with El Centro at the Austin Community College, Riverside campus.

Mr. Barona is the middle of three children. His parents immigrated to the USA from Cali, Colombia and have worked very hard to give their children the best life possible.  At the end of fall 2014 all three of their children will have a college degree.

I am privileged to work with amazing scholars.  I am motivated every morning because I know that the work I do is directly leading to their success.  I am inspired by every Scholar I see walk across the stage on graduation day.  I have the opportunity to assist in the creation of innovative tools to better serve our Scholars.  For all of these reasons, I love my position with HSF and will continue to do my best to encourage and serve all of our Scholars.
