Sergio G. Hernandez serves as Outreach Program Manager at the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF). He leads, develops and delivers college preparation programs that serve thousands of students throughout the nation, as a member of the team that executes HSF’s College Camp and College 101 series. He is also HSF’s first Deferred Action for Children Arrival (DACA) employee.
Mr. Hernandez began mentoring youth in 2006 when he first volunteered as a College Student Relations Fellow at HSF’s Youth Leadership Institute.  He began his career in higher education at Cal Poly Pomona where served as the Student Affairs Scholarship Program and EOP and AB-40 Graduate Assistant, as well as the Rose Float Program Coordinator. Previously, Mr. Hernandez also worked as the Assistant Greek Life Coordinator at California State University, Fullerton.
Mr. Hernandez is a first-generation son, brother, educator and DREAMer.  He is the first in his family to graduate from college. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona in 2010, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Through his constant volunteer work with numerous educational programs, Mr. Hernandez became inspired to continue his education.  Most recently, he earned his Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in higher education, from Cal State Fullerton in 2013.  Despite numerous obstacles encountered in receiving financial aid, he managed to successfully leverage his situation and graduate debt-free.
Mr. Hernandez has been an advocate for DREAMERS in several non-profit organizations.  He continues to share his story and inspire others to continue pursuing their dreams of earning advanced degrees, despite all odds.

I am inspired each day when working with students who are determined to believe in their dreams and succeed.  My work with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, thus far, has truly been a dream come true.
